IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic: Law

  1. Are police officers popular in your country?

No, most people here think police officers are corrupt or incompetent. People don’t trust them and avoid going to the police when possible.

  1. Do people like being a police officer in your country?

I guess this profession is still popular because being a police officer puts you in a position of authority. I don’t know whether it pays well, but I don’t ever see police officers complain about their salary so it must be OK.

  1. What qualities should a police officer have?

Police officers should be upright. They should care about fellow citizens and strive to uphold justice and equality. And I can’t stress this enough: they should go after bad people instead of regular people.

  1. Why some people prefer to be a lawyer?

People generally think of lawyers as intelligent. Being a lawyer usually comes with a high salary and practicing law gives people the knowledge and resources to protect themselves legally.

  1. Do you think that people in your country obey the law all the time?

No, certainly not. Many crimes are reported on newspapers and television. They appear very frequently. In fact, I see them every week. Traffic violationssexual harassment and school violence have been on the news recently.
