What is IELTS?

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is used as the language of communication. IELTS is required for entry to university in the UK and other countries.

IELTS Test Pattern

IELTS Syllabus includes different sections, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The complete test duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes. Listening: The total length of this section is 30 minutes and it is divided into four parts candidates have to answer different types of 40 questions.

For taking the IELTS, your minimum age should be at least 16 years & you must have a valid passport. You will be eligible to take the exam if you fall into one of the categories: Planning to study in UK/Australia/Canada/New Zealand/USA. Being a medical professional, planning to work or study further in UK/Australia/USA.
IELTS scores always range from 0 to 9 (“non-user” to “expert”). You can also get ascore ending in .5, for example, 6.5, 7.5., 8.5. Each individual IELTS Skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) gets a band score in this range. You also get an overall band score for your whole test.
IELTS is no more difficult than any other exam. The questions are straightforward and designed to assess how well you can use your English – not to trick you or testyour opinions. As with any examIELTS requires thorough preparation. Also, remember that there is no pass or fail in IELTS.
You can give it for as many as times you want. IELTS exam is conducted every month for 2 – 3 times. So you can book your exam dates in a same month as well but it is normally advised that you should not appear for the exam no closer than once in a period of two month
Try attempting some mock tests before applying for IELTS test to get yourself familiar with the pattern and time frame in which you can easily prepare yourself for the test. You can easily prepare fron your home. There is no need to join any academy or training centre. You will just waste your time and money.
First, do only listening for 2 or 3 weeks, then writing. After that practise IELTS reading for several more weeks. The thing is that your skills develop faster when you do the same activity for a long time. When the exam date is nigh, start doing full tests.
IELTS – results are valid for two years only. BULATS – we recommend that employers/educational institutions ask for some further proof of a candidate’s level of English if the test was taken more than two years previously.
What You Should Do If You Fail IELTS. You just got your results and found out you have failed to get the target score. Go ahead and allow yourself to be angry and disappointed for a few days. After that, take a look at the score of each test.
