IELTS CUE CARDS
Describe a time when you gave someone some money as a gift.
You should say:
- when it was
- whom you gave it
- what occasion it was
and explain why you gave some money to this person as a gift.
[You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.]
Sample Answer:
Well, thank for the nice topic and it reminds me of the day in September last when I gave a hundred dollar bill to my niece. In fact, she wanted to get a present for her upcoming birthday, so, she asked for a present to me but I gave it as I was unable to manage time to get a gift for her.
Samantha is a sixth-grader of a local school here in New York. She loves to play video games, read books while travelling is her big hobby. Participating in extracurricular activities is the most preferred activity for her. Later, I came to know that she was planning to get some travelling gears that she found online. So I gave her the money so that she could buy something she wants.
She would be turning to become a teenager in October this year. Being the only girl child in our family, everyone loves her. I am not an exception. But being a university student and part-time researcher, I need to spend busy days. I also had a plan to visit out of the country for some research work that I got recently. Thereby, it was not possible for me to attend the birthday ceremony of our little angel.
Accordingly, I planned to give her some money as a gift. And she can use the money to meet any of her needs. So, I went to a local bank here and got the fresh notes of $ 100. I packed them in an envelope and presented that to her. She was surprised when I gave her the gift and told her about it. I felt so happy too.
