◆COMMON NOUNS◆

These refer to indefinite objects, persons or places and are generic names.

They don’t begin with a Capital letter unless used in the beginning of a sentence.

● Examples—

  • a park (place)
  • a spoon (object)
  • a doctor (person)

◆PROPER NOUNS◆

These refer to particular or definite objects, places or persons.

Proper Nouns begin with a Capital letter.

● Examples~

  • Kailashnath Temple (place)
  • Rolex Watch (object)
  • Shakespeare (person)
  • Bhagwad Geeta (book)
  • Onam (festival)

◆COLLECTIVE NOUNS◆

These are names by which groups of common nouns are identified.

● Examples~

  • An impatience of wives.
  • A multiplying of husbands.
  • An argument of advocates.
  • An exultation of fireworks.

◆CONCRETE NOUNS◆

These are tangible, visible objects or things.

● Examples~

  • Brick.
  • Toys.
  • Pencils.

◆ABSTRACT NOUNS◆

These refer to intangible and invisible nouns which can be used to describe feelings.

● Examples~

  • Pride.
  • Humility.
  • Love.

◆MATERIAL NOUNS◆

These refer to nouns used in making or forming other objects.

● Examples~

  • Cotton.
  • Flax.
  • Silk.

◆COUNTABLE NOUNS◆

These denote nouns which can be counted.

● Examples~

  • Pens.
  • Books.
  • Pencils.

◆UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS◆

These refer to nouns, substance or concepts which cannot be counted or calculated as separate elements.

All abstract nouns are uncountable nouns.

● Examples~

  • Hair.
  • Sugar.
  • Love.
